I’m a huge fan of home weddings, they’re always so special to the couple - and as a photographer, it’s wonderful to capture and see how comfortable people are in familiar environments. Rachel’s parent’s house (Hotel California) is pretty much on Waihi Beach, it’s like ‘throw a stone into the sea’ kinda close, a double storey overlooking the ocean. This wedding had such good vibes, great music, 21 year old aged bottles of whiskey, awesome food, and one of the coolest father/daughter dances I have ever seen! There was an obvious amount of care, loyalty, respect and love with these families too, which is always great to see.
This was also the wedding where I captured the “jumping groomsman” shot, which won me NZ Wedding In-Camera Artistry Photographer of the Year for 2019
