NZ Geographic Photographer of the Year 2019 - Finalist
Last month I found out that I am a finalist in the NZ Geographic Photographer of the Year Awards. I entered this image in the last 15 minutes of available entry time, so was pretty stoked to learn that I had been named a finalist (amongst 50 other fantastic finalists). I have entered quite a few photography awards in NZ but this was the first time entering the NZ Geo competition.
We recently built a house in a new stage of a subdivision, so there has been a lot of development in this area, and it provided a fantastic opportunity for the youngsters on their bikes to get out and about in the fresh air, building ramps and creating their very own adventure park area. It was so refreshing to see the kids on their bikes instead of their iPads. On one of the days we had beautiful weather and clear skies, it was a bit later in the afternoon when the sun was lower, so the shadows were all elongated. I got my drone out and couldn’t resist snapping this still frame of the kids on their bikes. Unfortunately for the kids, this area is currently getting developed so their bike park has since been demolished, and instead of the jovial sounds of the kids voices we have bulldozers and excavators moving the earth back and forth. But the fun was good while it lasted and i’m glad I captured this photograph.
There is seriously some amazing talent here in little ol’ New Zealand, checkout the work from the other finalists here
